Younger other Ben~shot back an obligatory~look of distain, but the~question hung heavy on~a cool summer evening.~/~As the youngest~Managing Director in the~long and prestigious~history of Chase ~Engineering and privy~to all the spoils~commensurate with such~a position, Ben Chase~was firmly ensconced~among the London elite.~Never mind that older~brother Daniel, rightful~heir to the Chase legacy ~chose instead to waste~his time chasing legends~of ancient baubles~in far flung places.~In fact, on this evening~the two brothers had~met for a late dinner,~with Daniel set to~depart the next day on~his latest misbegotten~adventure, this time to~Egypt.~/~Am I happy? Ben turned~the thought over in his~mind. As he glanced~across the table at~Daniel in the fading~sunlight, scrawling~ridiculous maps and~glyphs on a napkin as~he prattled on about~enormous gemstones,~Ben had to admit, for~reasons unknown to~himself, the answer was~no.~/~Seated in his well-~appointed offices several~days later, Ben had~discovered one of Daniel's~note-filled napkins in~his jacket pocket.~Shaking his head,~Ben could only assume~that Daniel had placed~it there. With his hand~hovering above the~trash bin, Ben paused~and despite his better~judgment, tossed the~napkin dismisively into a~side drawer.~/~Another month passed,~as the months often did,~with Ben receiving no~communications from~Daniel in the field.~And then on a rainy~Tuesday afternoon after~a particularly grueling~staff meeting, Ben ~received a phone call~from the British~Consulate in Egypt.~"Mr. Chase", said the~carefully modulated~voice on the other end,~"we're sorry to inform~you that your brother~Daniel has gone missing".~/~For Ben, the rest of~the conversation was~a blur. After it was~over, Ben sat silently~for a moment, and then~reached to open the~side drawer of his desk.~The napkin was there.~Ben knew what he~needed to do. He picked~up the phone and~dialed the company travel~office. "This is Ben Chase",~he said, "I'm leaving for~Heathrow. Get me on~the next flight to Cairo".~
